Arsenal Get N11b offer for Iwobi From Premier League Rivals

Super Eagles star, Alex Iwobi, has become the subject of speculation linking him with an exit from Arsenal, with the Gunners’ Premier League rivals, Everton, understood to have tabled a £25 million bid plus add-ons for the Nigerian attacking midfielder.

It is understood that Everton are looking to bring in a high-profile attacking player to Goodison Park before the close of the transfer window on Thursday, with the Toffees seeing a £70 million plus two players offer for Wilfried Zaha rejected by Crystal Palace.

And with Iwobi’s chances of getting minutes in the Arsenal first team looking limited following the arrival of Nicolas Pepe for a club-record £72 million fee from LOSC Lille, Everton have provided an option for the 23-year-old to consider ahead of the 2019/20 season.

But as quickly as the Everton bid to Arsenal became known, Daily Mail football writer, Adrian Kajumba, has also reported that the Gunners have turned down the approach from Everton for Iwobi, with the Merseyside club now expected to return with an improved bid for the Nigerian.

And according to BBC Sport football writer, David Ornstein, Everton could return with a bid in excess of £40 million which is expected to be accepted by Arsenal.

Iwobi played a prominent role as Arsenal made it all the way to the 2019 Europa League final as well as a fifth placed finish in the 2018/29 Premier League campaign.

Last season was Iwobi’s best campaign in an Arsenal shirt in terms of appearances and goals involvement, with the forward playing 51 matches in all competitions and scoring six goals for the Gunners.

He went on to represent Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, with the Super Eagles making it to the semi-final stage before settling for bronze after beating Tunisia 1-0 in the third-fourth playoff match.

Iwobi has since been away from Arsenal’s pre-season training, further fuelling speculation that he could be on his way out of the Emirates Stadium before the transfer deadline in England on Thursday, August 8.

What are your thoughts on this development surrounding Iwobi’s future at Arsenal? Will Everton be a good option for the Super Eagles star?
